Popular Media Editing

Oftentimes, academics want to break out of their fields and get involved in larger conversations about the things that matter, but writing for popular media is quite different than writing academic work. I’ll help you align your ideas to the format of your choosing.

If you’ve ever tried to write an op ed or magazine article, or even a blog post about your work, you’ll know that the popular genre is very different from the academic work you are used to doing. If you’re hoping to gain more visibility for your ideas, I can help you focus and clarify your argument, craft prose that is engaging, develop your storytelling muscle, and tailor your writing to the venue you are shooting for.

What You’ll Get:

  • A short letter conveying broad feedback about improving your general argument, evidence, narrative, structure, voice, and style.

  • A Word document with margin comments and in-text track changes, that identifies specific challenges, explains what effect they may have on readers, and makes concrete suggestions for revision.

Often it takes some time to get used to writing for a popular audience. Thus, while I am happy to work on such pieces on a one-time basis, clients often find it very useful to engage me for a period of time to engage in simultaneous media pitch and process coaching and editing of actual pieces of work.

This work is booked by the hour at a rate of $80/hour.
